Zostrix 500 Tablets and Oral Suspension

Therapeutic Classification:

Properties:
Each tablet contains:
Azithromycin (dihydrate) equivalent to 500 mg

Each teaspoon (5mL) of reconstituted oral suspension contains:
Azithromycin (dehydrate) equivalent to 200 mg

Indications for use:
- Bacterial Bronchitis treatment, exacerbations, Chlamydial Cervicitis (gonococcal and nongonococcal), Pharyngitis, Haemophilus influenzae Pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumoniae pneumonia, staphylococcal and streptococcal infections of skin and soft tissue and chlamydial urethritis.

- Prevention of the spread of Mycobacterium avium complex disease in HIV patients with advanced infection.

- Treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma hominis, or Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

- Treatment of pharyngitis or tonsillitis due to Streptococcus pyogenes.

- Treatment of mycoplasma pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Instructions:

Usual dose for adults and teenagers: Antibacterian:
- Bacterial Bronchitis, exacerbations, streptococcal pharyngitis, Clamydia pneumoniae, infections of skin and soft tissue or streptococcal tonsillitis: Oral, 500 mg as a single dose at the day 1, then a 250 mg dose once a day on days 2 to 5.
- Non-gonococcal cervicitis and non-gonococcal urethritis: Oral, 1000 mg as a single dose.
- Prophylaxis against Disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex disease: Oral, 1200 mg once a week, alone or in combination with the approved dosage regimen of rifabutin.

Usual dose for children:
- Severe otitis media, pneumonia caused by Clamydia pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae or Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Children from 6 months to 12 years old: Oral 10mg per Kg of corporal weight until 500 mg the first day, then 5mg per Kg of body weight, until 250 mg on days 2 to 5 of the treatment.
- Children under 6 months of age: Safety and efficacy have not been established.

Streptococcal pharyngitis, streptococcal tonsillitis:
- Children from 2 to 12 years old: Oral, 12 mg per Kg of body weight, until 500mg once a day for 5 days.
- Children under 2 years old: Safety and efficacy have not been established.
